Rapa Nui

000033.jpg

3,686 km off the coast of Chile lies Easter Island. The island is known locally as "Rapa Nui," and it is truly a wild and one of a kind place teeming with marine life.

The reef structure is composed of predominantly two coral species, Pocillopora verrucosa and Porites lobata, and is home to many endemic species such as tipi tipi 'uri (Chaetodon litus), a black and white butterflyfish.

I accompanied several researchers as a research assistant where I prepped materials and participated in some scientific dives. I also spearheaded an outreach initiative for elementary students that featured a coloring and activity book about the coastal ecosystem.
